Python: The Popular Choice Among Programmers in Poland

Since 2003, Python, the incredibly versatile and intuitive programming language, has maintained a comfortable spot among the top ten languages in the TIOBE Programming Community Index. By December 2022, it crowned itself as the undisputed champion, earning the most popular programming language title. A feather in Python’s cap, indeed.

Python isn’t confined to the community of coders. Large organisations like Wikipedia, Google, CERN, NASA, Facebook, Amazon, Instagram, and Spotify have also leveraged the benefits of this language, integrating it into their everyday operations. Moving closer to home, we decided to delve into Python’s popularity in Poland. An astounding number of professionals – precisely 100,786 – have Python listed as a skill. However, knowing a skill doesn’t necessarily equate to expertise. Therefore, we filtered our study to include only those with Python as a skill and with a role as a software or data engineer. The resultant data provided fascinating insights into the state of Python in Poland.

There is a thriving talent pool of around 30,000 individuals with Python skills in Poland, according to LinkedIn and Ntiative Business Insights. Many of these individuals are either newly minted Python programmers or those looking for new opportunities in the field. But with a predominance of males (84%) in this talent pool, it’s evident that there’s still room to grow in terms of gender diversity.

The average length of service within the Polish Python community is 1.3 years, suggesting a dynamic and fluid job market with a healthy amount of role changes and new opportunities.

Python Talent across Polish Cities

Poland’s Python talent is distributed across the country, with the top three cities boasting the largest talent pool: Warsaw, Krakow, and Wroclaw. On the other hand, those seeking Python talent will find the most abundant resources in Gdansk, Poznan, and Katowice.

Universities and Python Talent

Poland’s universities have been instrumental in cultivating this Python talent. The top five universities churning out Python-proficient professionals include:

  • AGH University of Science and Technology
  • Warsaw University of Technology
  • Wroclaw University of Science and Technology
  • Gdansk University of Technology
  • University of Warsaw.

Python and the Corporate Landscape

Corporations have been instrumental in tapping into Poland’s Python talent. Regarding talent pool size, Nokia, EPAM Systems, Google, Intel, and Sii Poland have the largest share. However, companies such as Dell, Snowflake, Affirm, Bayer, and Vention have shown impressive growth rates in their Python talent pools over the last year. Notably, Google has demonstrated a significant increase in Python talent, whereas companies like IBA Group, IBM, Credit Suisse, TomTom, and Grand Parade have seen a decline.
